Hunter divisions are offered at a total cost of $40 and consist of a $25 over fences and $15 flat class. Entry in a Hunter division flat class requires entry in the corresponding over fences class.

Official Rules

Click below for the Official Rules, Participants Code of Conduct, and Terms and Conditions the will govern the New Vocations Virtual All Thoroughbred Charity Show.

OFFICIAL RULES
  1. Classes are open to Thoroughbreds only. A “Thoroughbred” is a Thoroughbred that has been registered with The Jockey Club or a foreign Thoroughbred stud book recognized by the Jockey Club. All Thoroughbreds must have T.I.P (Thoroughbred Incentive Program) number.
  2. Show Management reserves the right to combine classes, split classes, cancel classes, change officials, limit entries, modify/cancel awards, and/or make whatever changes are required by circumstances to the competition specifications listed herein. Show management also reserves the right to refuse or require withdrawal of an entry for cause deemed sufficient by Show Management.
  3. The show will be conducted under USEF Discipline Rules to the greatest extent possible in the virtual setting. The USEF Rulebook can be found HERE.
  4. Schooling and show attire permitted. Appearance should be neat and tidy.
  5. ASTM/SEI approved helmets must be worn in all mounted classes except for Western Pleasure. All riders under the age of 18 must wear a helmet, even in Western Pleasure classes.
  6. Horses may cross enter Hunter, Jumper, Pleasure, War Horse, Retrained & Remarkable, and Dressage classes unless otherwise noted in the Class Requirements.
  7. No martingales in flat classes
  8. No equine wraps or bell boots of any kind permitted in Hunter, In-hand, or Dressage classes
  9. Junior classes open to Riders/Handlers under the age of 18 as of 12/01/2019. AA classes open to Adult Amateurs. For more information on what constitutes Amateur status, please visit www.usef.orgOpen classes are open to any rider.
  10. Braiding is not required.

PARTICIPATING RIDER CODE OF CONDUCT

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program and  expect appropriate behavior from all riders, trainers, and others participating in any New Vocations Event. Inappropriate behavior may include, but is not limited to: possession, use or distribution of any illegal drugs; profanity, vulgar language or gestures; harassment (i.e. using words or actions that intimidate, threaten, or persecute others before, during, or following New Vocations activities); failure to follow rules; and abusing a horse. Reports of inappropriate code of conduct may be made at any time to the Show Manager via email, text, or phone call support@virtualhorseshowseries.com or (502) 468-2688. Any verbal or physical act of discourtesy toward a judge, show official, trainer, owner, riders, handler, groom, family member or person associated with an entry is a violation of the Code of Conduct. Persons found by Show Management to be in violation of this Code of Conduct will be unable to participate, will forfeit fees and awards, and will be ineligible for future entry.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS

General video requirements for all classes. Please see specific video instructions for your class under Class Requirements & Patterns below. 

GENERAL VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
  1. A friend or family member will be needed to serve as your videographer
  2. Your name and class name should be stated at the beginning of your video. For example, “Cindy Smith, English Pleasure Walk/Trot.” Adding an intro with this information as text is permitted.
  3. Videos may be recorded in any open space with flat ground
  4. Keep lighting in mind when choosing a place to record, choose an outdoor area when possible
  5. Zooming in should be done when possible, keeping entire horse and rider/handler in frame
  6. A new and unique video should be recorded for each class
  7. Videos should be recorded with sound ON and submitted with their original audio, coaching is NOT permitted
  8. Videos should NOT be edited in any way, edited videos will be disqualified. An intro may be added to include the rider and class name.
  9. Record videos in landscape orientation (hold phones horizontal or longways)
  10. Videos should never exceed 6 minutes

Class Requirements & Patterns

Hunter

Hunter Divisions will consist of two classes, an over fences and under saddle flat class. Entry in the over fences class is required to enter the corresponding under saddle  flat class. A specific order for performing gaits on the flat is posted below with the over fences courses.

Cross Rails 18″: Open to all Thoroughbreds with limited show experience. Trotting is permissible. Horses may not have shown 2’0” or higher. Horses are not eligible to cross-enter other over fences classes.

Cross Rails W/T: Open to all Thoroughbreds entered in Cross Rails Over Fences.

Very Green Hunter Over Fences 2 ’0” – 2’3″: Open to all Thoroughbreds with limited show experience. Trotting is permissible. Horses may not have shown 2’6” or higher. Horses are not eligible to cross-enter classes where fences are over 2’3″.

Very Green Hunter W/T/C: Open to all Thoroughbreds entered in Very Green Hunter Over Fences.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS­

  • The over fences class should be filmed from the location indicated on the posted course.
  • The under saddle (flat) class should be filmed from the center of the long side of the arena.

COURSES & SCORE CARDS

New Vocations Hunter Derby

The New Vocations Hunter Derbies require entry in the Hunter Classic (A) and the corresponding Handy Hunter (B) class. Both scores will be combined to determine placings. A jog will not be required.

New Vocations Hunter Derby 2’6”, 2’9”, 3’ Jr: Open to all Thoroughbreds ridden by Junior riders (under 18 as of 12/01/2019) who have shown in at least one other hunter over fences class. Fence height to be determined by the hunter over fences class entered by the horse-and-rider combination.

New Vocations Hunter Derby 2’6”, 2’9”, 3’ AA: Open to all Thoroughbreds ridden by an Amateur who have shown in at least one other hunter over fences class. Fence height to be determined by the hunter class entered by the horse-and-rider combination.

New Vocations Hunter Derby 2’6”, 2’9”, 3’0”: Open: Open to all Thoroughbreds who have shown in at least one other hunter over fences class. Fence height to be determined by the hunter over fences class entered by the horse-and-rider combination.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS­

  • Entries will submit a single video completing the classic hunter round followed by the “handy” round.
  • The rounds should be filmed from the location indicated on the course posted below.

COURSES & SCORE SHEET

Jumper

Jumper courses will be judged using a two-part scoring system. Each numbered fence will receive a score of 0-10, and the round will also receive a collective score on the overall impression of the horses performance.

Very Green Jumper 2’ – 2’3″: Open to all Thoroughbreds. Horses are not eligible to cross-enter classes where fences are over 2’3”.

Hopeful Jumper 2’6” – 2’9″: Open to all Thoroughbreds. Horses are not eligible to cross-enter classes where fences are over 2’9″.

Schooling Jumper 3’0”: Open to all Thoroughbreds. Horses are not eligible to cross-enter any class where fences are under 3’0″.

  • Video should be recorded from the location indicated on the course posted below.

COURSE & SCORE CARD

English Pleasure

.Judged on manners and way of going. Gaits will be performed in the specific order posted below.

English Pleasure W/T: Open to all Thoroughbreds. Horses are not eligible to jump above 2’0.

English Pleasure W/T/C: Open to all Thoroughbreds.

PATTERNS & SCORE SHEET

 

Western Pleasure

Judged on the Western horse’s obedience and suitability as a pleasure mount. Western tack is required. Western headgear is permitted for Adult riders over the age of 18. Protective headgear may be worn, without penalty, by adults over the age of 18. All riders under the age of 18 must wear a ASTM/SEI helmet. Gaits will be performed in the specific order posted below.

Western Pleasure W/J: Open to all Thoroughbreds.

Western Pleasure W/J/L: Open to all Thoroughbreds.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS

  • Video should be recorded from from the center of the long side of the arena

PATTERNS & SCORE SHEET

 

Fresh Off-The-Track

Judged on manners and way of going. Walk and trot will be performed in the specific order below.

FRESH OFF THE TRACK W/T/C: Open to all Thoroughbreds that raced in 2019 as well as 2020. Horse’s are not eligible to jump above 2’0”.

PATTERN & SCORE SHEET

 

Lead Line

Lead Line: Open to children 6 years and younger riding Thoroughbreds in English or Western tack. Judges will evaluate a young rider’s horsemanship, hand, seat, & leg position.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS

  • Video should be filmed from the locations indicated on the posted pattern.
  • Videographer should ask the rider the following five questions at the conclusion of the pattern: 1. What is your name? 2. How older are you? 3. What is your horse’s name? 4. What are you sitting in? 5. What are you holding?

Costume

Costume : Open to all Thoroughbreds. Any costume theme. Costumes are not to restrict horse’s movement or sight.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS­

  • Video should one minute, or less, and showcase costume from all angles.

War Horse Pleasure

Judged on the horse’s way of going in English or Western tack. Gaits will be performed in a specific order posted below.

War Horse Pleasure W/T or W/J: Open to all Thoroughbreds that have raced at least 50 times OR that have won over $100,000.

War Horse Pleasure W/T/C or W/J/L: Open to all Thoroughbreds that have raced at least 50 times OR that have won over $100,000.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS­

  • Video should be recorded from from the center of the long side of the arena

PATTERNS & SCORE CARD

War Horse In-Hand

Judged on the horse’s over conformation excluding old/new injuries such as bowed tendons, splints, osselets. Manners and way of going in-hand at the walk and trot will also be judged. Horse should be presented in a black or brown English-type bridle with a noseband and simple bit such as a snaffle. No leg wraps, boots, or coverings of any kind. Handler should  walk and jog horse from his left side. Formal attire is not required, but neatness and turnout is important. A specific pattern for this class is posted below.

War Horse In-Hand – won over $100,000: Open to all Thoroughbreds that have won over $100,000.

War Horse In-Hand – more than 50 starts:  Open to all Thoroughbreds that have raced at least 50 times

  • Videos should be recorded from the location indicated on the posted pattern below.

PATTERN & SCORE CARD

Retrained & Remarkable In-Hand

Judged on the horse’s conformation, manners and way of going in-hand at the walk and trot. Horse should be presented in a black or brown English-type bridle with a noseband and simple bit such as a snaffle. No leg wraps, boots, or coverings of any kind. Handler should  walk and jog horse from his left side. Formal attire is not required, but neatness and turnout is important. A specific pattern for this class is posted below.

Retrained & Remarkable In-Hand: Open to Thoroughbreds adopted through the New Vocations Retrained and Remarkable Challenge.

Horses may be hitched to a two or four-wheeled show cart. Horses will perform walk and trot in each direction in the specific order posted below.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS­

  • Video should be recorded from the center of the long side of the arena.

PATTERN & SCORE CARD

 

 

Retrained & Remarkable Trail

oJudged on the performance of the horse through obstacles, with emphasis on manners, response to the rider and quality of movement. English or Western tack permitted. Pattern is Rider’s Choice.

Retrained & Remarkable Trail: Open to Thoroughbreds adopted through the New Vocations Retrained and Remarkable Challenge.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS­

  • Video should be recorded from a position along the rail that allows the best view of all obstacles

PATTERN

Riders Choice: Pick 5 obstacles to work your horse through, that you easily have access to on your farm.

Suggested Obstacles: 

  • Water crossing
  • Dragging or pulling tarps or logs
  • Opening/closing a gate while mounted
  • “Tasks” such as checking the mail, carrying a flag or bucket, etc.
  • Dismount, mount, ground tie
  • Backing, sidepassing, tight turns
  • “Encounters” such as tents, fake animals, balloons, etc. 

SCORE CARD

 

 

Dressage & Western Dressage

Open to all Thoroughbreds. Dressage classes will be conducted under 2020 USEF Dressage and USEF Western Dressage rules unless otherwise noted by Show Management or in these Rules. All tests may be read in all classes. Horses can be shown in only two consecutive levels. (Example – Intro and Training Level or Training and First Level, etc., includes Eventing Test equivalents as follows: BN and N (Training), T (1st level), P (2nd level), I (3rd level), A (4th level). 17″ rosette ribbons will be awarded to 6th place in all classes, except those listed below.
